The Return Ride: Staying Committed When the Going Gets Tough

May 15, 2025

Hey there,

You know how sometimes life just loves to throw a wrench in the works when you're actually trying to get somewhere? Like, you're cruising along, feeling good, and then BAM! Something unexpected pops up. It can be super easy to just go, "Ugh, forget it," right?

Well, something kinda funny happened to me the other day on my bike. I was heading back home, feeling pretty good about the ride so far. Then, out of nowhere, this crazy headwind just smacked me in the face. Seriously, every pedal stroke felt like I was trying to move through peanut butter. Now, here's the thing – I was on the return leg. Turning back wasn't really an option, unless I wanted to add a whole lot of extra riding to an already tiring day. I was committed to getting back home. The only way was forward, straight into that wind.

And it got me thinking, that whole windy ride back felt a lot like going after a big goal. You start off with energy, feeling like you're making progress. Then, life throws those headwinds your way. Maybe it's a setback at work, or your budget takes a hit, or you just have one of those days where you doubt everything. Those are the moments when it's so tempting to just throw in the towel and go back to what's easy.

But just like I couldn't really turn back on my bike ride without making things way harder, sometimes in life, the only real way to get where you want to be is to keep pushing through those tough spots. You've already put in the effort to get this far, and turning back now just means you have to face those same challenges later, or maybe even lose the progress you've made.

Think about what really matters to you. What's that thing you're working towards that gets you fired up? You've already started the journey. When you remember that, those bumps in the road stop feeling like dead ends and start feeling more like part of the final stretch. They're just there to test how determined you are to reach your destination.

So, next time life tries to slow you down with a headwind, remember that goofy ride home of mine. Sometimes, the only way through is forward. You've already come this far, and the finish line is in sight. Dig deep, and keep pedaling – you're going to get there.

Hang in there, you're doing great!

Cheers,

Coach Wendy
